In memoriam of Dr David Thomas Pugh (13 July 1943 – 1 August 2022)
IAPSO deeply regrets to announce that our esteemed friend and colleague, Dr David Pugh passed away on 1st August 2022 in Wales. Dr Pugh was Director of the Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level and chairman of the IAPSO Commission on Mean Sea Level and Tides. His career was concerned with understanding the changes in sea level due to the tides and other processes that are so much a feature of the UK coastline.
To celebrate his significant contributions to the global marine community, his friends and colleagues at the National Oceanography Centre have compiled a Synopsis of David’s life in science.
IAPSO is close to the UK marine community who will miss one of its leading and most active members. We extend our deepest condolences to his widow Carole and his son Gareth.
To promote the study of the oceans and the interactions that take place at its boundaries with the sea floor, coastal environment and atmosphere, through the use of physics, chemistry, mathematics and biogeochemisty.
