Next Scientific Assembly, Prince Albert I Medalist 2019 and other information from IAPSO

Next Assembly
The next Scientific Assembly of IAPSO will take place in July, 2019 in conjunction with the IUGG General Assembly in Montreal, Canada. The IAPSO symposia will be scheduled between 9 and 14 July.
IAPSO is sponsoring or co-sponsoring 31 symposia covering a wide range of topics. The IAPSO program details can be found at the Assembly's website:

Important deadlines:
- February 18, 2019: due date for abstract submissions and grant applications.
- March 30,2019: due date for the notification of paper acceptance and decisions on grant application;
- April 5, 2019: due date for early bird registration.

Prince Albert I Medal 2019
Dr. Corinne Le Quéré, FRS, Professor of Climate Change Science at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, and Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research (2011-2018), is the Prince Albert I Medal recipient 2019. This is given for 'her fundamental contributions to our understanding of ocean biogeochemistry and global carbon cycling, and her work to quantify the ocean's role in the uptake of global carbon emissions'.
The Medal ceremony and Albert I Memorial Lecture will take place during the IUGG 2019, on Friday July 12.
Eugene LaFond Medal 2019, Call for candidates
The Eugene LaFond Medal 2019 will be awarded to an ocean scientist from a developing country making a presentation (poster or oral) during an IAPSO-sponsored or co-sponsored symposium at the IUGG 2019 General Assembly.
The eligibility criteria are on the IAPSO website (http://iapso.iugg.org/awards-and-honors/the-eugene-lafond-medal26.html).
Prospective candidates are invited to identify their presentation as being eligible for the LaFond Medal. This is done by sending an email, including a brief CV describing their education and research activities, to the IAPSO Secretary General (iapso.sg@gmail.com) and copied to the President (denise.smythe-wright@noc.ac.uk). Please specify in the email the title of the presentation and the symposium in which it will be presented, and in what form (oral or poster).
Applications must be submitted before the start of IUGG 2019.
Early Career Scientist Medal
Following the decision to make awards to early career scientists there was a call for nominations which closed on 31 January, 2019. There have been 12 nominations and the ECS Award Committee will publish the winner(s) by 1 March, 2019.
The award ceremony will take place during the IUGG 2019, on Friday July 12, when the recipient(s) will deliver a presentation on a scientific topic of their choice.
Honorary Member (Fellow) of IUGG
Congratulations to Philip Woodworth (UK) for his significant advancement of sea-level science and outstanding contributions to international scientific cooperation, and especially his leadership of the Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level (PSMSL).
